Ric McIver is a former Calgary alderman who first won a seat in the Legislature with Alison Redford’s PCs in 2012, and was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2019. McIver has served as the Minister of the Ministries of Transportation and Infrastructure, in that order, under Redford, Hancock, and Prentice. McIver was the runner up in the PC leadership race of 2014, and when Prentice retired from politics following the 2015 NDP victory, McIver took over as interim leader of the PCs until Jason Kenney was elected in 2017. McIver joined the UCP along with most of the PC caucus, and contested the party’s leadership race later in 2017, but lost to Kenney in the new party. McIver has a history working in the food industry in a variety of roles in addition to his political history, and currently lives in Calgary with his wife, their four children, and their two grandchildren.
